3 Common Winter Skin Care Issues And How To Treat Them Naturally

Many of us complain when the cold weather rolls around, but winter really is a beautiful and cozy season if you just take a few moments to appreciate it. We love the thought of curling up by the fire, creamy cocoa (or a Tim’s cup!) in hand while the snow falls gently outside.

Unfortunately, this picturesque season can take quite a toll on your skin due to the dry air that saps moisture out of your pores leaving your skin looking dull, dry, and at risk for flare ups.

The good news is that you don’t have to suffer until winter tapers off and spring finally arrives! We’ve put together three of the most common winter skin care issues and tips on how you can sort them out right now.

Chapped Lips

Dry, chapped lips aren’t only annoying; if left untreated they start to crack and bleed, putting you at risk for a painful infection. It’s inevitable that your lips will dry out as the temperatures start to drop, so it’s important to protect them against the elements.

We recommend ditching the chemically-laden conventional balms and switching to an all natural alternative instead. Look for ingredients that will moisturize and heal as well as provide a soothing layer of protection. A few of our favourite ingredients include coconut oil, cocoa butter and shea butter. Apply throughout the day as many times as needed.

If your lips are peeling and painful, then treat them to this DIY soothing lip scrub before you apply your lip balm at least once a week.

Eczema Flare-Ups

Eczema is an inflammatory condition characterized by dry, red, itchy and scaly skin. Hydration is needed to soothe the itch and heal the skin so it makes sense that the dry air of winter isn’t kind to eczema and can cause flare-ups.

To soothe the pain and frustration of a flare-up, be sure to lather your skin in all natural hydration and ingredients aimed towards healing your skin. Our Eczema Relief Cream is an all natural cream filled with homeopathic ingredients including Calendula. Calendula is known for its anti-inflammatory, wound healing and pain relief properties and will help to sort your skin out in no time! It’s also gentle enough to use on your child’s skin so you can feel good about treating your child’s eczema naturally, without the use of nasty chemicals!

Dry Eyes

Dry eyes don’t sound too bad, that is until you experience them for yourself. While there are many causes of dry eyes, dry eyes during winter is usually a direct result of dry air.

One of the best way to treat dry eyes naturally is by taking a supplement that can keep your eyes healthy from the inside out. Another way you may experience immediate relief is by investing in a good humidifier. Humidifiers shoot moisture into the air which helps to re-hydrate your skin, your eyes and your sinuses.

Follow these tips and you’ll soon be well on your way to hydrated skin, and be able to get outside and enjoy the wonderful winter season with family and friends!
