3 Simple Ways To Strengthen Your Immune System Just In Time For Flu Season

With the temperatures still at a comfortable level, it’s hard to believe that the flu season is around the corner.

But all you need to do is notice the lengthening shadows and the dark creeping in a little earlier, along with the slowly changing colours of the leaves to know that fall is almost here.

We have to admit, after a long and especially humid summer, we are looking forward to some cooler weather, not to mention all the fun that accompanies the new season, from apple picking with the family to horse back riding!

Of course, with the good comes the bad too, and in this case, it’s a rise in colds and flu. No one wants to deal with a nasty flu, so our best advice is to boost your immune system so you can fight it off before it even has time to develop.

In this article we’ll talk about a few of our favourite immunity boosting tips and we urge you to share them with everyone you know!

Rely on Vitamin C and herbal remedies

Vitamin C is that one vitamin everyone should be taking everyday. It decreases inflammation in the body, which in turn strengthens the immune system. It also helps to protect the body against harmful free radicals that you don’t have control over, such as air pollution, as well as prevent and treat systemic and respiratory infections.

Not only do our Cold and Flu Capsules contain this excellent antioxidant vitamin, they also contain a powerful blend of immune-supporting herbal ingredients including astragalus, echinacea, American ginseng and zinc along with potent Reishi mushroom and Andrographis; a herb traditionally used in Chinese medicine for its antiviral activity. For a liquid version, Cough + Cold tincture and Immune Health tinctures, are chock-full of immune-supporting botanicals!

Eat a Primarily Plant-Based Diet

It doesn’t matter what excellent supplements you are taking if you aren’t paying attention to the foods you are eating every day. A plant-based diet is best, or at least 80% plant-based and 20% animal products is recommended for reducing inflammation and boosting immunity.

Fill your diet with fresh leafy greens like spinach, kale and collard greens, oily fish like salmon and sardines, and healthy fats like avocados and coconut oil, along with nuts and seeds.

A healthy diet along with your supplements and a good exercise routine is ideal for warding off colds and flu.

Don’t Forget Your Vitamin D

Another vitamin that is very important and is often overlooked is Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps to activate immune defences, helping the body to fight off infections.

Take it everyday to keep your immune system strong and double your dose at the first sign of a cold to shorten the duration of your cold. In fact, Vitamin D can cut the duration of your cold in half so you don’t have to spend days in bed missing out on all those fun Fall activities that you could be enjoying!

We hope these tips make the transition into the cooler season a seamless one! Cheers to your health!
